This is the unique journey of Sean Harrington, a lifelong tree enthusiast and the visionary behind Wolf Tree Wood. From his childhood days of seemingly non-stop tree climbing and treehouse building, to his early adult years of finishing and refinishing wood surfaces, Sean has been passionate about wood and especially passionate about the forest. Wherever Sean went in life, whether wrestling or as a college wrestling coach or any of Sean’s professional ventures, Sean’s connection with nature has been a guiding force throughout his life.
Sean’s diverse ventures in wrestling, painting, wood finishing, non-profit, and land development have all played a pivotal role in shaping his unique path. Wrestling, in particular, remained a constant thread weaving through his life—from a State Championship in high school to All-American accolades in college, two Olympic Trial appearances, and a ten year stint coaching NCAA Division 1 college wrestling.
Transitioning from competitive wrestling, Sean ventured into entrepreneurship with Advanced Investments LLC, where he, along with a team of experts, pioneered a green infrastructure approach to land development in New Hampshire. Advanced Investments, in collaboration with University of New Hampshire, designed and permitted the first private development in the State of NH to use porous pavement on a roadway. The Boulder Hills project has become a jewel of Green Infrastructure planners and designers. Multiple case studies have been performed by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Washington on the viability of this eco-friendly storm water management system.
Upon the sale of the Boulder Hills project, wrestling’s gravitational pull persisted, leading Sean to establish Brickhouse Wrestling & Fitness, a transformative academy that molded aspiring wrestlers into champions and leaders, and helped countless students reach their goal of gaining access and scholarship to the most prestigious Universities in the US including Harvard University, Boston University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Johnson & Wales, Springfield College, Maryland, UNC, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and others.
His decade-long stint as a college wrestling coach, primarily at Harvard University with a notable tenure at Boston University as well, marked the next chapter in his professional career. Coaching numerous All-Americans, and Olympic-level athletes, Sean left an indelible mark on the wrestling community. In 2012, he led a 10 day training/competition trip to the US Olympic Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado for the Boston University Wrestling team.
Elected President of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame – Massachusetts Chapter in 2016, Sean continued to honor the sport’s legacy through a multi-term presidency that lasted through 2023. Hosting over 400 attendees and performing emcee duties for annual induction ceremonies at Gillette Stadium, the home of the New England Patriots, Sean and the Board of Directors celebrated the achievements of lifelong coaches, Outstanding Americans, and Medal of Courage Award winners over his multi-term Presidency.
The Wolf Tree Wood story began when Sean’s coaching journey concluded. The iconic Marsh Farm White Oak, a 225-year-old world class giant, became the catalyst for this venture. Sean’s passion for wood, cultivated over a lifetime transformed into a commitment to salvaging old growth trees and creating exquisite wood slabs. The result is Wolf Tree Wood…Established in 2021.
Every step of the Wolf Tree Wood journey reflects Sean’s dedication to the art of wood processing and finishing. The company’s focus on utilizing a state-of-the-art kiln system ensures the preservation of the wood’s innate beauty. The resulting collection boasts hundreds of unique and rare wood slabs,

Moisture Content Control
Kiln drying allows for precise control of the moisture content within the wood. By reducing moisture to optimal levels, it prevents issues such as warping, cracking, and decay that can arise from excessive moisture.
Dimensional Stability
Properly kiln-dried wood exhibits improved dimensional stability. This means that the wood is less likely to undergo changes in shape or size when subjected to varying environmental conditions, ensuring it maintains its intended form.
Preventing Decay and Insect Infestation
Kiln drying eliminates excess moisture, creating an environment inhospitable to fungi, mold, and insects that thrive in damp conditions. This significantly enhances the wood's resistance to decay and pest infestations.
Reduced Weight and Improved Strength
The drying process reduces the weight of the wood, making it more manageable and cost-effective for transportation. Additionally, kiln-dried wood tends to be stronger, ensuring structural integrity and longevity in its applications.
Enhanced Workability
Kiln drying improves the workability of wood by reducing its hardness. This makes it easier to cut, shape, and finish, facilitating a smoother and more efficient manufacturing or construction process.
Faster Production Times
Kiln drying accelerates the drying process compared to traditional air-drying methods. This allows for quicker turnaround times in wood production, making it a more time-efficient option for various industries.
Improved Appearance
Kiln drying enhances the aesthetic qualities of wood by preserving its natural color, minimizing discoloration, and reducing the likelihood of surface defects. This results in a more visually appealing and marketable end product.
Consistency and Quality Assurance
Kiln drying provides a controlled environment, ensuring uniformity in the drying process. This consistency is crucial for producing high-quality wood products with predictable characteristics, meeting the specifications and standards of manufacturers and consumers alike.
In essence, kiln drying is not just a step in our wood processing chain; it's the cornerstone of durability, usability, and overall quality in every Wolf Tree Wood product.
Wolf Tree Wood champions initiatives that save rather than deteriorate the environment. The Wolf Tree Wood Academy epitomizes our forward-thinking approach.
Collaborating with world-leading universities on sustainability initiatives it at the forefront of the academy research. We are studying the environmental, atmospheric, and climate data and cross analyzing the data with regard to the trees and their responses to those conditions. Wolf Tree Wood is also collaborating on an innovative wood grading system that takes into account sustainability. Not only do we plant young trees, we help save the old ones. Wolf Tree Wood is an active participant in the research and preservation of old-growth trees.
One of the major goals of the academy is to uncap a more in-depth understanding of the intelligence and understanding our old growth trees possess.
